Prayer meetings are most often organized by someone, regardless of their size. But because we are gathering together to pray it seems odd to pray about prayer. Obviously the prayer meeting is already going to have prayer, so why pray about a prayer meeting?
At Hillsong Church in Australia, we have all kinds of meetings that include prayer.
We pray in our weekend services.
We pray before our weekend services.
We even pray with our guest speakers before we go into our weekend services.
Our young people pray, the kids pray, our Connect Groups pray, and so do our staff meetings. We have prayer requests that you can fill in before you come into church so that we can all pray about specific things, and then we have intercessors that keep praying over these needs through the week. But every year there is a prayer meeting that is organized just for praying. This is called the Mega Prayer Night.
A few years ago Australia was experiencing some pretty bad drought and there were widespread water restrictions. At our Mega Prayer Night we didn't just happened to pray about this - we were led by the LORD to pray about this. We were in prayer about our prayer meeting!
Obviously many other churches were also praying but the national newspapers announced the breaking of the drought the next day!
Solomon built the first temple of the LORD in order for God to dwell permanently with His people but I was overwhelmed this morning as I read how he prayed for everyone who would one day pray.
- 1 Kings 8:41-43 ...when they pray, hear from Heaven and grant what they ask of you...
Prayer is the opportunity that God has given us to be able to speak to Him. This is an amazing privilege.
There is no doubt that prayer changes things. Our next Mega Prayer Night is tomorrow night, Tuesday 12th June, 2012.
Let's come together and worship Jesus and ask Him to lead us and help us as we build His Church all over the world.
I am Praying for a Prayer Meeting.
